Dorian’s Parlor
is a celebration of the Steampunk aesthetic, which blends history with the future and adds a healthy dose of what might have been. Patrons dance, sip cocktails, enjoy hors d'oeuvres and partake in a one-of-its-kind lineup of bands, DJs, dancers and high fashion from the foremost neo-vintage designers. Dorian’s Parlor is fast becoming a household name for those who love Steampunk and all things neo-vintage.

The June lineup features the return of the delightful Psyche Corporation, which is “one part cyberpunk trip-hop darkwave music, one part robotics exhibition, one part dreamscape art.” The much-loved White Elephant Burlesque Society returns as well with a gypsy cabaret full of vaudevillian burlesque Dorian’s Parlor also features New-England based band Jaggery, an art-rock collective which weaves instruments such as harp, viola, piano, contrabass, and drum kit with other-worldly vocal stylings. For something a little out of the ordinary, check out Walter Sickert and The ARmy of BRoken TOys, described as “a Dada-esque circus carnival run amuck.” This month’s fashion show will feature the delightful designs of Jeximé, and Tsirkus Fotografika’s RA Friedman will present the project’s most memorable and intriguing portraits and discuss his unorthodox photo methodology.

The next 21+ event will be held Saturday, June 4th, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., in the Ormandy Ballroom of the DoubleTree Hotel, on the Avenue of the Arts in downtown Philadelphia. Admission is $25, and includes a drink ticket and hors d’oeuvres.

my excerpt from Elementary Erotica (adults only) [Apr. 28th, 2011|01:14 pm]

As J. Blackmore posted previously, the steampunk Holmes erotica anthology Elementary Erotica was published recently and one of my stories is included. I hope you'll enjoy this excerpt, which is written in my (dare I say trademark?)  highly descriptive, flowerly, filthy way. Despite the Victorian vernacular, it is explicit pornography so please do not click to read it if that's not your thing. And if you like it, please buy the Elementary Erotica e-book - it's modestly-priced, and includes six other sultry Sherlockian tales. plus the rest of mine, which is 10,000+ words of relentlessly hot sex scenes. I won't go so far as to promise you a plot, and my story does stand out from the others which are plot-driven erotica. But if you like the rest of my writing, the following will be pleasing to you - enjoy!  ♥ MissV

Title: Upon the Use of Electrical Vibration in the Treatment of Hysterics
Author: missviolet
Pairing: Holmes/Watson (Canonical)
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: PWP, heterosexual and bisexual sex
Summary: Watson treats a lovely hysteric and randy Holmes lends a hand
Notes: published by Circlet Press in the Elementary Erotica anthology

Sherlock Holmes Erotica Anyone? [Apr. 5th, 2011|12:57 pm]

Elementary Erotica edited by J. Blackmore

In these seven stories, our authors explore the allure and simmering sexuality of the Victorian age’s greatest detective, through the fantastical lens of steampunk. Editor J. Blackmore, known for her erotic steampunk anthologies, continues her romp through the literary boudoirs of the Victorian age that has previously included Lewis Carroll and which will soon encompass Jane Austen and H.P. Lovecraft, as well.

As she notes in her introduction to Elementary Erotica: “I was surprised by the overwhelming response I got when I requested [these] erotic stories. Holmes’s apparent distaste for women and seeming lack of interest in sex make him an unlikely hero for an erotic story, but each of these authors found their own unique way of dealing with this problem. The backdrop of Victorian England is one filled with tension and danger for homosexual men. This was a time and a place where it was illegal to be gay, plain and simple. We’d do well to remember that Holmes was not always a devotee of the law.”

By transforming the Victorian figure into an erotic one, these stories make social commentary on the repressiveness of the Victorian age and fear of sexuality in our own times. They are simultaneously parodic, through their use of known settings and tropes, and erotic, through their liberation of the previously unwritten sexuality of the characters.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out Dorian’s Parlor yet, you should definitely put “Attend January’s Event” at the top of your list of New Year’s Resolutions. A monthly Steampunk event held at Ormandy Ballroom of the Doubletree in downtown Philadelphia, Dorian’s Parlor embodies the very spirit of the New Year. It takes the old – fashions, ideas, etiquette, food, games, music – and reinvents them to create something shining-new and daring, bold and enticing. There is a sense of excitement and nostalgia in the air as patrons come together to dance, sip cocktails, enjoying hors d'oeuvres and partake in a one-of-its-kind lineup of bands, DJs, circus performances and high fashion from the foremost neo-vintage designers. This is one resolution that you’re sure to enjoy keeping.

The next 21+ event will be held Saturday, January 22nd, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., in the Ormandy Ballroom of the DoubleTree Hotel, on the Avenue of the Arts in downtown Philadelphia. Admission is $25, and includes a drink ticket and hors d’oeuvres.
